The Tru Turn system is an upgraded steering system that includes steering arms, draglink bracket and tie rod assemblies. This upgrade will allow you to have enough clearance to run up to a 10″ wide wheel with a 275mm tire!

Description

The early Camaro/Nova frontends have very poor suspension geometry…the tires lean outward around turns, the bump steer is bad, and there is little room to run a wide wheel because of the OEM steering arm interference with the inside of the wheel. The Tru Turn system resolves ALL these issues…the tires now lean INTO the turn, the bump steer is UNDER .050″ through 5″ of suspension travel, and you now have clearance to run up to a 10″ wide wheel with a 275mm tire! Compatible with both the Ridetech “Pin” spindle and the “Hub” spindle.

An upgraded steering system that includes:

  1. Steering Arms – designed to correct bump steer AND allow clearance for up to a 10″ wide wheel with a 5.75″ backspacing.
  2. Forged Draglink – bolts in place of OEM draglink to relocate the inner tie rod end to minimize bump steer
  3. Tie Rod Assemblies – integrates with your new steering arms and center link to provide a true “no fab” bolt on steering system.

  • 1.Do I have to modify my OEM subframe?
    No modifications are necessary at all.
  • 2.Can I really fit a 10″ wide wheel with a 275mm tire?
    Yes! There is no modification necessary to the subframe, but you WILL need to create clearance on the inner wheelhouse and the outer fender lip. These modifications can be as simple or elaborate as you talent and ambition dictate, but if done nicely, are all but invisible.
  • 3.Can I use my existing OEM or other aftermarket dropped spindles with this system?
    No…the RideTech spindle is a critical part of the whole system. Using a different spindle will create highly unfavorable suspension geometry and would be incompatible with our steering arms.
  • 4.Will a 17″ wheel work with this system?
    Yes…We have fitted a 17×10 wheel on this system with a Baer 14″ rotor and their 6P calipers.
  • 5.Can I use my stock brakes or other aftermarket brakes with this package?
    OEM drum brakes will not work with this spindle. OEM discs or other brands of disc brakes intended for an F body or A body GM should be fine.
  • 6.What is “bump steer” and why should I be concerned about it?
    Bump steer is a term that refers to the control arms and the steering linkage moving in different arcs as the suspension moves through its travel. When this happens the tie rods will move the steering arms [and therefore the wheels] in directions that the driver does not intend. This leads to an “uneasy” feeling car. Some OEM cars [especially older muscle cars] can have a lot of bumpsteer…as much as 1″! Imagine the toe setting on your car changing unpredictably as you go down the road! The Tru Turn system nearly eliminates this situation…the bump steer in less than .050″ over the entire 5″ of suspension travel. This leads to a very stable and comfortable feeling vehicle.
  • 7.What is camber gain and why should I be concerned about it?
    Camber gain refers to the rate of camber change the spindle will see through the range of suspension travel. With most OEM cars [especially older muscle cars], the OEM suspension geometry will lean the compressed wheel OUT when turning. [Take a look at an early Chevelle or Camaro taking a hard turn] With the Tru Turn suspension the compressed wheel will lean INTO the turn, keeping the tire squarely on the ground thereby offering more lateral grip AND offering a more stable turning experience.
  • 8.Will I sacrifice any turning radius?
    No loss of turning radius! An 18×10 wheel with 5.75″ of backspace and a 275/35-18 tire will lightly kiss the frame rail or the sway bar at full lock under full compression…just enough to clean the paint off…no damage to the wheel, tire, or other components.
  • 9.Is the Tru Turn system compatible with my OEM control arms, or other brands of control arms?
    We have only done fitments with the RideTech StrongArms. While it is possible that the OEM arms, or another brand of tubular control arm could work, we cannot guarantee fit or performance.
  • 10.Is the new Tru Turn system compatible with previous RideTech Camaro components such as the StrongArms, tall spindle, or ShockWaves?
    Yes…the Tru Turn system can be added to your existing RideTech suspension. If you already have RideTech spindles, the upgrade package would include the steering arms, draglink bracket, and the tie rod assemblies.
